Summer Reading Blog

Students: Please "comment" on this page with the name and author of the book you read in addition to Wonder this summer. Then, decide whether or not you would recommend the book to other students. Explain why or why not. It is not acceptable to only write "I would recommend the book because it was really good." Give me more details! Here is an example for Wonder:

"The book I read this summer was Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I thought the book was really powerful and had a great message of staying true to yourself even when faced with challenges. The main character August (Auggie) has to go through a lot of challenges that many middle schoolers go through, plus many more. I would recommend the book because it was a great story and had a lot of events that kids our age understand. I would especially recommend it to anyone nervous about going to Middle School."

The book I read this summer was called The Postcard by Tony Abbott. It could possibly be a good book for people if you like mystery, but I on the other hand would not recommend this book to me it was really boring and I think there should have been more action and more suspense if I were to rate this book I would give it a 2* rating because of its content and suspense. P.S. I read another one of this authors books that was not good either, if your looking for mystery these are good mysterious books I suggest the amulet graphic novel series by Kazu Kubushki, Magic Thief, Harry Potter series, Spider Wick series, The Masterpiece by Elise Broach illustrated by Kelly Murphy, and Shakespeare Secret both wrote and illustrated by Elise Broach.

  22. Over the summer I read Holes by : Louis Sachar. I would recommend this book because it tells about a time in a not so fun place. It has action and good vocabulary words in my opinion. The book is about a kid named Stanley who does some bad things and ends up in Camp Green Lake. He ends up having to dig a six foot long and 6 foot wide hole every day! Although if I told you the rest you would not have to read the book now would you. Anyways, if this got your attention then stop by the library or book store and purchase it.

  23. I read Masterpiece by Elise Broach. If you like good mystery books then Masterpiece is a good book for you. Masterpiece is about a boy and a beetle when a masterpiece gets stolen and their adventure to get it back.

  24. I read the Confectionately Yours series by Lisa Papademetriou. If you like drama, humor and baking this book is good for you. They have recipes in the books for cupcakes. My favorite book in the series has been Save the Cupcakes. Hayley's world is far from perfect with her parents divorce and she lives with her grandma, her mom, and her little sister above a tea shop. She goes to school with her best friends Artie and Marco. Out of 1-10, I choose 10. I enjoyed this book and the series is awesome.

  25. I read Masterpiece by Elise Broach. I recommend it to people who like mysteries. Marvin, the beetle, lives with his large family under James Pompaday's bathroom sink. When James gets an ink set for his birthday MArvin draws him a perfect mini drawing that looks exactly like a Durer painting. Everyone thought that James drew it so Marvin and James became friends. Christina and Denny (the art museum workers) asked James to help them stop the thief that stole three paintings that Durer made, Justice, Prudence, and Temperance. The thief was going to steal Fortitude too so they asked James to draw a fake Fortitude. (The four are made to go together as sisters.) Will they stop the thief and find the other paintings? Read this awesome book to find out!

  29. I read Revolution Is Not A Dinner Party by Ying Chang Compestine. Its a book about a girl who is living in a time when they have to rebuild China. The main character is a girl named Ling who likes to put pony tails on her fathers head. Her favorite treat is fruit and her mom makes her drink disgusting soup. I think you should read it if you like hard times, fighting, and food, but I do not recommend this book, because the book talks too much about eating food and not enough about how hard it was for her dad to be in jail. I would rather know about that experience than food.

  31. The Flight of the Phoenix wasn’t that great of a book for me because I thought it was boring in the beginning how his parents died in a plane crash. I also thought it was boring because once he got to Aunt Phil’s house he didn’t do anything besides look at maps on the wall. So I wouldn’t recommend the book for other people.

The series order is "Magyk, Flyte, Physik, Queste, Syren, Darke, and Fyre". It is about a dark magic that takes over a castle and the good guys have to fight to take it back. If you start the first book and don't like it wait until about the 100th page and it gets VERY good.
